By request we've added a new feature for paid members: the ability to ping Weblogs.com with updates of your public posts.

I doubt I'll ever use this new feature, but thanks anyways. As for the guy above whining about the service, I can see where he's coming from, but I don't feel the same. Yeah, the server errors suck. But I'm not about to ask for my money back.

When I decided to pay for an account it wasn't because I thought I was going to get anything particularly great that I couldn't get with a free account. It was because I believe in LiveJournal and enjoy having it. And I believe in supporting things I enjoy. A lot of webcomics out there now have donation systems set up so that their main content is free, but if you decide to support them they give you some sort of extra gift. You're not paying for the gift, you're supporting the content and getting a little incentive. That's how I see LiveJournal.

I support LiveJournal by paying for an account because I like LiveJournal and because if nobody supports it then it is going to go away. You're not paying for the extras, you're paying to keep LiveJournal afloat, period. If you think LiveJournal should be run strictly as a for-profit business, rather than an online community, then you aren't getting the point. Yes, this means that the paying members are, in essence, paying for the free members as well. But without the members there is no community, and the community is the one thing LiveJournal provides that the other blogs can't.

Yup yup yup.

I hardly ever write in my own LJ - I just want to be able to leave notes for my friends. But I pay anyway, because a site devoted to keeping people connected and giving them a place to write about their lives is worth the paltry $25 a year.

This same whining happens at Open Diary. It's universal.

I agree with you & as we used to say back in the 60's,
Right On Baby!

If you pay for something and you are not happy with the "product", go some where else!

The piddling amount one pays for this service isn't worth all the fuss.
A lot of you spend more than this on Lattes, Beer, Smokes (both kinds)
and CD's and never give it a thought.

Besides, if you don't like the "paid" account, go back to the free side.
No one is forcing you to pay or stay.
