I've had a small java program for ages that does it for me. So, not impressed. I'd be more impressed if the site was more reliable between now and midnight. All the 'page not found' interruptions for a service I paid for is rather annoying.
And spare me the we're unpaid volunteers schtick. If you take someone's money for a service, you should be able to deliver it. Period.
quick! revise that list. *bump* *bump* *bump* there we go!
priority #1: impressing tangletoy
Ah yes, and the LJ zealots come out of the woodwork to troll. Hi. Glad to see you have nothing else to do today.

wait, who's the troll again ?
I hope you're aware that you come across as a total jackass to neutral parties here.
I agree with you 100%.
I'm a paid user, and honest have thought that we should get extensions to our paid time for all the times LJ is down (at a prorated schedule of course).
I'd rather it work, but if it doesn't, I shouldn't have to pay for that service period.
Yeah, cable goes out and they credit my account. Why? Because I paid for a service that wasn't delivered. It's amazing to me that LJ constantly fails to recognize that simple business concept. But with all the LJ cheerleaders lining up to kiss up constantly, they're sort of busy stroking their egos.
You are lucky, my cable company won't credit shit unless it is out for a full 24 hours...the last time it went out, it was out from about 6pm until 10pm...I called and they gave me the shit line that I was roughly due .40, complaints under 24 hours could be sent in writing for credit. You believe that crap...
I pay $80 a month and that was the damn answer...
When LJ is not up it does suck. The last major outage was the host I believe, it wasn't long I don't think. They are pretty damn big and it sucks, but I deal with a lotta hosts and they are up way above average. As for credit, LJ has been really good about long term outage credits. Keep a log, if it gets bad then send a support request. It will get answered.
I lost LJ for three or four days when a node between me and LJ becided to drop LJ from their DNS, it took me that much time to convince them it wasn't ME and it wasn't LJ. When I asked for credit they told me the rest of the net worked they don't give credit because one site was unreachable.
Customer service has gone to shit in this country but I'm serious, if you have a log of long periods of it being unavailable, drop support an email.

as far as i've noticed [though this might not be exactly right for everybody], paid time expires always a few days or even weeks after the planned time, which means you get a present from lj anyway. do you want to treat it as your extention, or to you want an extention to that extention?
by the way, as far as i remember, when there was some serious downtime a couple of weeks ago, all the paid times were extended by extra 4 days.
i have a permanent account myself, i paid for it, and even when there's downtime, i don't regret it. i believe livejournal is giving me exactly what i paid for.
deliver it. Perhaps you should read the ToS
before you pay for a service:YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT:
(a) YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. LIVEJOURNAL.COM EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
(b) LIVEJOURNAL.COM MAKES NO WARRANTY THAT (i) THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, (ii) THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, (iii) THE RESULTS THAT MAY BE OBTAINED FROM THE USE OF THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE, (iv) THE QUALITY OF ANY PRODUCTS, SERVICES, INFORMATION, OR OTHER MATERIAL PURCHASED OR OBTAINED BY YOU THROUGH THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS, AND (V) ANY ERRORS IN THE SOFTWARE WILL BE CORRECTED.
I do wholeheartedly agree that downtime is rather annoying, but I also understand the agreement that I took the extra step of agreeing to by actually paying for it. Even my ISP will only credit my account for outages that exceed what's specified in my ToS...
"We have the right to take your money and run."
I have to agree, I finally got myself a paid account and for a few days this week it's been acting up, giving me server error problems, and such.
It's quite disappointing to have this happen normally, but for this stuff to happen when you have paid for the account, it's even more disappointing.
dont be rude :/ they try.
post is ancient, but i totally agree.
