sandy, mother/employee, is off in Mexico this week so I got the job of running to the PO Box and processing check payments.|
It got me thinking about payment related items....
Would those of you who prefer to pay by check/money order/cash be interested in getting a self-address envelope mailed to you a couple weeks before your expiration date, complete with renewal order number? All you'd have to do is include payment and a stamp? I figure the cost of two envelopes and a stamp is approximately the same as our credit card processing fees, and if it'd make it easier on you, why not?
If you pay by postal mail, would you like an automatic renewal order/envelope sent to you a couple weeks before your account expires?
(Comments also invited)
Second question: Anybody experiencing problems with automatic renewal emails coming too late or not at all? We've had a few random complaints, but I'm not sure how big the problem is.
(and sorry this isn't a more interesting post... but whitaker starts his full-time LiveJournal internship in a week, and then we'll have double manpower on the hackin' front....)
Regarding the automatic renewal email: I only knew I needed to renew this account (Chiller) when my user info page icon changed from the thumbs up to the Other One.
However, on other accounts I've had no problem - emails have arrived just fine.
I put the problem down to a temporary glitch and paid up anyway. ;)
fortunately I don't have to worry about renewals....
my email wasn't late at all. in fact, it was about a month early lol
i didn't even bother reading the entire list of other comments because i started seeing a trend. i voted yes to the mailed envelope idea because, call me crazy, but i have a system for when bills come in to be paid and renewals come in as well. i haven't had to deal with early/late renewal emails for LJ since i just started my paid account last summer... but it seems obvious to me by the comments that what people are sayin is that email is less reliable. i work in an IT department... i've seen email servers just eat emails like they were at a buffet. sure a letter can get lost in the mail, but in most cases it gets where it needs to be more reliably. i think the snail mail renewal notice idea is a great one, especially for folks like myself who refuse to use paypal or credit cards.
In general, I think that the *option* for mailings should be included. If people don't want to use it, they don't have to.
The only issue is mailings for oversees customers.
It may be worth looking into Kagi
or someone similar who accept multiple currencies within cheques etc, as suggested earlier in this thread.
I am a newbie to the paid sceen...I just got my first paid account. So I'm not sure how it works.
But I love you guys bunches, and I live for my journal!
Thank you for all the wonderful things you do here!
my renewal email came almost 2 weeks late
i didn't get a renewal notice this time at all. i got something today that said i was expired (but didn't tell me when i expired).
I got a renewal notification last week, and my account doesn't expire till 4-24-03, or something like that. Is it standard that it comes so early?
Last time I renewed, I did it on my own, I didn't receive notification of expiration at all. Just thought you'd like to know.
I normally pay by Credit Card but if I did go the check/money order route, I think I'd like getting a pre-addy'd envelope in the mail.
I don't know about renewal notices, but I bought three accounts for people a month or so ago, and two of them never got any notice of it. This was right around the time you were changing e-mail systems, though, so that might have had something to do with it.
The pre addressed envolope would be great, I am Legally blind and had a horrible time writing the address, LOL, that was NOT funny....
My problem with the renewal emails is that I only got one, about a month or so before my account expired. I figured I'd renew later, but then I forgot about it and my account expired without me noticing. It'd be nice to get a reminder email closer to the end date, and then maybe one when the account expires, letting people know that their account has been downgraded. Some of us more monetarily challenged (read: broke) users tend to wait until we absolutely have to before spending money, and a month beforehand isn't much of a reminder.
I just joined the paid members journal and It wont let me post. Do I have to do somthing(yes I added It to my friends list)first, or is it just a general info page that you can't post to like you can other communites?
I get my emails a month ahead of time...
It always seems to manage to come in a week when I have a tonne of other things on, so I think "hey, it can wait 'til next week"
Then I promptly forget until the very last minute.
I could do with a reminder closer to the time.
