Thoughts on a new feature? [Mar. 29th, 2002|06:51 pm]

We've had this idea we've been kicking around for a while, and we thought we'd get some feedback from this community, because if/when we do add it, it will be a paid feature.

Basically we want to introduce individual journal statistics, complete with referral stats and unique page views. This could also include statistics that would show you how many people have linked to a specific journal entry of yours, or who have linked to you in one of their journal entries.

Keeping in mind that we won't:

  • Show you logged in viewers, because of privacy issues that could incur;

  • Show you IP addresses, because they don't reveal any useful information;

What features would you like to see in a LiveJournal stats tracker?

This sounds like an awesome idea! I think not only should you offer a full page statistics view with information such as how many hits your journal has received, unique visitors count, most popular referring link, and a percentage of the types of browsers (ie 55% Internet Explorer 25% Netscape Navigator 20% Other).

Users should have the option to make this page public, friends only, or private.

You should also offer counters that can be placed right in the style so anyone that visits the journal can see the counter on the default page (http://user.livejournal.com).

You should also definetly make this an entirely paid accounts only feature.

i would like to have updated postes posted at the top again, instead of just staying were they are on the calendar. I often post lists and when I update them I either have to creat a whole new entry, or tell people to go looking for it.

This is probably off topic, but...

A feature I'd find useful in LJ would be to be able to filter the posts to a community so that I could see only the posts a certain individual has made to the community.

Re: Good Idea

yeah, a lot of times people will post and refer to a previous post of theirs, and if it's a fairly active community, it can take a while to look through and find their previous post.

I'd like to see statistics relating to how many times I've used a user pic.

For example on this page:
http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=jameskpolk

it would have percentages next to each one indicated how often I've used them.

Just thought it would be fun. Thank you for all your hard work!
