Thoughts on a new feature? [Mar. 29th, 2002|06:51 pm]
Paid Members
We've had this idea we've been kicking around for a while, and we thought we'd get some feedback from this community, because if/when we do add it, it will be a paid feature.

Basically we want to introduce individual journal statistics, complete with referral stats and unique page views. This could also include statistics that would show you how many people have linked to a specific journal entry of yours, or who have linked to you in one of their journal entries.

Keeping in mind that we won't:

  • Show you logged in viewers, because of privacy issues that could incur;

  • Show you IP addresses, because they don't reveal any useful information;

What features would you like to see in a LiveJournal stats tracker?

Not about stats, really, but I'd like to see more interests allowed for a user.

150 just isn't enough for me. ;x

I love it!

I think that this would be a great idea. However, once paid members have their accounts expire, would they lose this privelege?

Great Idea.... also.....

Are there any plans to make journals fully downloadable instead of just a month at a time?
It would be nice if it was possible to get it as a series of HTML pages with images linked also saved. Is anyone developing any software to do this?

Thanks :)

I would like...

I would like to know who viewed my journal, and know there username and stuff. I think that would be interesting. Maybe have a counter and the last date they visited my journal.

firstly, i love the entire idea of journal stats, maybe as like another levl of paid member??

and the whole IP address thing, screw it.....you use someones web server you expect it to be logged, and done whatever they like with it....its their logfile....not much anyone can do, and its nothing really useful, other than tracking WHO is reading your journal....and where they are....

i know on my site, i actally have a "The LAst Visitor to this page was: $IPADDRESS" and it has the last ip of the person who visited...

say, I'm logged in, does that mean if i look at someones journal, they'll see my name read their journal?
i don't really like that.

Comments and a question about non-javascript stats trackers

I agree with the move not to show logged in viewers. However, I would like to see the complete (i.e., including the last octet) IP addresses of those who read my journal.

Just a question though:

Sitemeter has both a javascript and a non-javascript version of their stats trackers. Is it ok to use the non-javascript version on our journals?

I think that we should be able to read all the comments we've ever made (and what they were in reference to, and whose journal)...

oh, and paid users should have a friends page that goes back farther than 2 weeks!

I like this idea!! I'm on a message board (www.punkottawa.com and when you look up a user you also get a link that gives you all the posts they've made and where to find them

This is way off topic, but I would like to see Comment moderation points... It would be similar to slashcode, and the owner of the journal can give out points for constructive comments made, and even have that little title next to it.

(-1, offtopic)
(3, informative)
(5, funny)

It would be a neat feature... And how many points someone has can appear in their statistics...

You've got my vote!

I have already smacked a hit counter on my journal but it would be wonderful to know WHERE the traffic is coming from so referer stats would be a bonus in my book.

Also, I love the idea of being able to see who has linked to my specific entries or added my posts to "memories". Likewise, I would enjoy others knowing that I have linked to their stuff too. Sometimes I prefer to lurk and not comment on what I've read and nobody would know I found his/her journal of interest.

Great ideas!

Referrals and page views would be on the top of my wishlist. Thanks.

I like a dislikes section would be cool. Like how there's already interests, but the opposite of that. So uh...uninterests?!
