|$10 coupon for your friends!
||[Dec. 16th, 2009|02:59 pm]
If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).|
- All Paid and Permanent accounts can send out the coupons by clicking here (it's also under Friends -> Holiday promotion in the site header)
- You can also send to people not on your Friends list by manually entering the username in the field provided
- If your friend declines the invitation, it will be returned to your available invitation pool and you'll be able to send to someone else
- You can send the invitations until January 15th
The old promotion was a different one in that it you can either buy brand new or renew paid time for other users along with a freebie of extra icons for them. It's very Christmasy and happy.
Now this is just for basic/plus members. Sure you can gift the user a gift certificate to use on top of the $10 discount, but that's just lame.
And that's the old one, they're not obligated to that. And why is that lame? Friend gets an account, you get a discount.
I can't gift renewal time with the discount for a friend who already has a paid account. I can be nice and not make use of the discount, but this new "promotion" spins a whole new tale. Now I'm just a salesperson and I'm not happy. Personally giving up 6 years of paid account once it expires end of this year because this kind of is the last straw in string of fuckery.
Does that apply to all gifts? If you give someone a gift they don't already have you're a salesperson? Have fun giving it up, I've seen tens of people at least wanting and taking the coupons. You're not entitled to gifts.
You're missing the point entirely. I usually gift a friend paid time regardless of how whether they are paid or basic/plus members or whether it was during any promotion (it does help, and good for boasting business from that point of view) and I do it because I know they would enjoy it. These are what everyone calls a gift, and any promotion would be fun to receive (it has become a tradition for friends to buy for each other; power of communities).
Now this is a bad disguise, aka Christmas "promotion" so exclusive to basic/plus members and with an expiry date, and it feels cheap. I know I'm not entitled to gifts, but it just feels like a slap in the face. If this "promotion" was never approved and released, I would have gone my merry way renewing my account and doing the same for my friends. Gaining goodwill of the community and its members is important, like how it wasn't necessary for them to have given us extra 3-day paid time for the downtime... GOODWILL.
I understand that there will be people appreciating the coupons but I know there are fewer newly converted members than there are paid members whose paid accounts happened to expire or are expiring soon. There will also be a group within the community (like myself) who have decided that they would rather live without a paid account because of the lost goodwill. I might renew if there are decent promotions in the future. This is what business sense is all about.
It's a slap in the face to not get a gift and it's bad business to not extend good will in the form of gifts?
