$10 coupon for your friends! [Dec. 16th, 2009|02:59 pm]
Paid Members

If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).

  • All Paid and Permanent accounts can send out the coupons by clicking here (it's also under Friends -> Holiday promotion in the site header)
  • You can also send to people not on your Friends list by manually entering the username in the field provided
  • If your friend declines the invitation, it will be returned to your available invitation pool and you'll be able to send to someone else
  • You can send the invitations until January 15th

I'm trying to send out coupons but it's not working. Is there a problem with the system?

I'm not sure if I'll renew my three accounts now or not. I've paid for LJ for two years, but you're giving us nothing. We can even give a full gift on something. Any chance there will be a Give More sale later this month?

This isn't working, I've tried to send it several times. And I agree with many posters, this isn't as good a promotion as the free userpics.

Wow, no one I know will be able to afford these "free gifts".

Is there any news on compensation for paid users for the two-day downtime and the lack of notifications for almost a WEEK that took place earlier this month thanks to a broken code release?

Hey, that's something I'd like to know about too. I pay you guys for two accounts (for reasons unknown to me at this time); you owe us all for the shit you keep pulling.

This "gift" is kinda useless given that if the basic/plus people I give it to can't fork up a credit card or $5 through paypal (ie all of them), the coupon can't even be used for a compensational 2-month paid account.

Basic/Plus users are basic/plus users for a reason. They are broke/underaged/unemployed.

Bad move.

Wow. This isn't gift-giving or a feasible holiday promotion, it's Scrooge dressing up in a Santa suit and stuffing a "Work on Christmas and get paid!" coupon in your stockings. I can think of at least a half-dozen accounts of mine that won't be getting renewed, and a few for my friends that I won't be able to afford to renew, either. This doesn't encourage purchasing, if that's what you were actually trying to do--it's just irritating for those of us who remember what an actual holiday sale from y'all looks like.

I remember this time last year I was really looking forward to the holiday sale this year when I'd actually have my own card. Admittedly I've taken advantage of this promotion for one account this year, but I still think I preferred the other one.

I really dislike this promotion, I'm sorry to say. I loved Give More for the same reasons people are mentioning above -- that you can actually use it to give, rather than to simply let your friends buy something themselves at a discount, and that everyone is able to make use of it, not just those who are already paid.

I know many other people, aside from myself, who were planning on using Give More to add some paid time to secondary accounts of their own, or to add time to friends' accounts, but who won't be able to use this promotion to do so because those accounts haven't expired yet and won't do so for a few weeks. And there's just something really uncomfortable about "gifting" people with something they still have to pay for themselves!

Can the coupon be used towards a rename token? (which are way too overpriced anyway, but that's beside the point)

I believe the only thing they can be used for is a one-year Paid account. I'm not staff, though.

I wish I had known about this 4 days ago.

A friend of mine's paid account expired. He had been having a terrible time financially and couldn't afford to renew so I bought him 2 months of service. So I basically kind of screwed him over by buying that for him since now he won't be able to take advantage of the holiday special.

Well, he still would have had to pay $9.95 (if he did autopayments) or $15 (if he didn't). You could have sent a $15 gift certificate probably though, to make up the difference, I guess?

I send coupons right away, thinking that my friends will get a paid account for free.

Silly me.

I did the same thing. I thought Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) meant that they would get a discounted price of $9.95 and the whole $10 coupon would cover it. Since it seems utterly moronic to give people half a gift certificate as a gift.

If someone's paid account time expires, can they use this after the fact? Or is it only for first time paid account users?

Also, if someone uses a coupon to get a paid account, do they also get 10 coupons to give away, or is it only for people who have paid accounts right now?

In response to the last question, I just got paid time for one of my secondary accounts using this, and it looks like you get coupons from that account too.
