|Earn Extra Cash with Your Journal!
||[Sep. 21st, 2009|06:47 pm]
As many of you may have alraedy seen, LiveJournal announced the Your Journal - Your Money feature today in news. This feature allows you to link your Paid or Permanent LiveJournal account to a Google AdSense account to display ads on your journal. You keep all of the proceeds from the display of these ads once Google takes their cut; LiveJournal does not keep any portion of the generated revenue.|
Now, before getting into any of the technical details at all, let's cover the most important point right up front: this feature is completely opt-in. If you choose not to use Your Journal - Your Money, nothing will change about your LiveJournal experience. You will never see any ads from this program on LiveJournal while you are logged in. Only those users who use this feature will see these ads.
So, those of you who know you'd never be interested in using Your Journal - Your Money can skip the rest of this post if you like and continue on down your Friends page. For those that want to know more, dive behind the cut for all the details.
( How to set it up, control ad placement, opt-in to see ads on your friends' journals, and everything else.Collapse )
Oh, absolutely not. This is not Facebook. What a horrible idea.
Er, what feature on Facebook is like this?
my entries was centered, now when i set advertisment on the right side my entries are on the left :( can i leave it centered?
Is this available to all country around the world?
...so not renewing my paid account. So not happy with this shit. So glad I never bought a perm account.
What is with Livejournal these days?
Honestly, I miss the old management. I miss livejournal. After 2007... things have really been getting worse around here. Ads in journals, unless you pay money. So, people are leaving. This place used to be packed full of awesome. LJ could still be better than myspace and facebook because of the communities here.
But, why do we have to have adds in our personal online journals? Why can't we customize the way we want to? Why is it all about MONEY?
Not that I'm pissed off about this or really care either way about it, but I'm just curious how economically feasible LJ really thinks this is? I mean...doesn't the majority of Internet users use firefox and adblock? Not to mention all the people who are genuinely pissed about this and most certainly will not be using it because it infringes on their assumption that LJ was being SRS when it promised no ads anywhere ever. Or that it's not likely anyone's personal journal gets enough traffic to accumulate a substantial amount of revenue off of this feature anyway. Unless you've got a lot of creepy stalkers who are interested in your personal journal but are too chicken shit to friend you, and you've left your journal publc - I don't see how this could work for anyone other than google, since everyone views posts from their friends page. I guess I can see WHY people are irritated about this, since it generally just reeks of LJ NEEDS MONEY LIEK NAO, which would understandably be some cause for discomfort considering all of the seemingly desperate attempts at grasping straws lately when it comes to LJ and finance. I mean... Is LJ really doing that poorly financially? I still plan on keeping my paid account and extra userpics for as long as blogging holds my attention, but this all seems a bit contrived and poorly executed. Added with the ad that was rather distastefully incorporated into the LJ banner on plus account holders' homepage, some might assume that LJ is very gradually trying to ease everyone into seeing ads, regardless of account type. I just figure that maybe it should have occurred to someone that this has potential to be a waste of time and that surely there has to be a more successful way of making profit for the site. Like...idk, utilising all those Russian pornbot accounts for advertising. They're not real people anyway, so I doubt they'll care if LJ decides to throw ads on those pages, especially considering how much exposure those accounts get on the aqua page as it is. It could prove to be a highly lucrative endeavour for all parties involved, with minimum piss-offage.
not that I can blame you guys; I CAN RECKINIZE, LJ's recently acquired new overlords seem to be having a hard time wrapping their soviet heads around the complex workings of capitalism
COOL STORY BRO, DISREGARD THAT I SUCK COCKS
haha reading back over all of that, I'm realising that comment came out way more condescending than I meant for it to be. LOL OH WELLZ. I WAS JUST WONDERIN'.
but you have to admit, all the wank this has inspired is fine entertainment.

The spam accounts already all have advertising on them.
If you do customization on your layout in S2, how can you get the ads to show? The FAQ linked above doesn't have any text at all.
Most of you probably familiar with Facebook – the unsinkable flagship, the mother of all social networks around the world, but it won't be our focus today. Three years ago Russian comrades took a look at Facebook and decided that: “The hell with it.... We will build our own with “blackjack and hookers!” Three years went by, and a social network known as VKontakte appears with no less than 45 million users. Wait! Don't discard VKontakte yelling who needs it if we have Facebook because I will explain why you do need it.
It is a known fact that on the streets of Russia there are bears roaming freely with balalaika's and cap hats which is probably the reason why copyright fighters haven't come to Russia yet... ATTENTION!!!! In VKontakte social network you will find multi-million library containing free mp3 files, you can listen on-line to whatever you feel like without any limitations, and believe me, there is plenty to listen to (take a look at the screen shot bellow). It is unbelievably simple – following the registration (absolutely free) in the search field simply enter audio files search, and VIOLA, you have found your happiness! I suppose advanced users don't need an explanation as to how files are downloaded.Registration - http://vk.com/reg1361664Pics...
I have a perm. account. I opted out of this when first offered and still want out.....the problem I'm having is that suddenly I am getting ads even viewing my own journal...annoying pop-up ads that show up ONLY while I am accessing LJ. What's happening????? Is this something I've done (I've not changed my settings at all for at least a year BTW)? Is it adware and if so why did it effect only LJ (did I pick it up from y'all)?
PLEASE respond...this is SOOOOOOOOOOOO annoying. Even if your response is shrugged shoulders of confusion at least I won't feel ignored.
I recently returned to being a Paid member, and then wanted to follow the instructions in this post to join AdSense. Yet when I open my Settings page - whether from the main menu, or by clicking on the "My Ads tab" link above - there is no "My Ads" tab there. "Extensions" is the last tab in the top row. I've scoured the Settings page, the Profile page, the Edit Profile page, etc. for anything involving AdSense or My Ads, and found nothing. Why am I missing this tab, and how can I go about signing up for AdSense for my blog?
