|Paid time extension
||[Aug. 17th, 2009|03:04 pm]
As many of you may already know, LiveJournal experienced about an hour of downtime on Thursday, August 6th due to a DDoS which affected LiveJournal and several other web service providers. In the days following that event some users may have noticed some site slowness or experienced connection problems as we worked on blocking "bad" traffic and making sure that all of you could access the site. We want to apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this caused.
Although the circumstances were out of our control, we greatly appreciate the patience and support you've shown us over the past week or two as we worked to mitigate the effects of this attack. For those of you who support us by owning a Paid Account, we'd like to express our appreciation by extending your Paid Time for a few days. Anyone who was an active Paid member as of any time Thursday, August 6, 2009 is eligible for a 3 day extension of Paid time. You can claim this extension anytime from now until 12:01 GMT on September 10th.
The extension isn't automatic so that people who weren't affected can have the option to choose whether or not they want an extension. You can choose to claim your extension by going to this page: http://www.livejournal.com/pay/claim.bml
This is very generous of you. Thank you :)
Thanks so much! I won't take the extension, as this really was not your fault at all, but the gesture of good will is much appreciated.
I was out for over 24 hours on Friday, August 7 until Saturday evening, August 8. I have a permanent account, so cannot take advantage of this offer - - and that's ok, really. I want to let you know that it wasn't just for "one hour". It was very confusing because I knew others were getting on, and I was getting some notifications. I called to check to see if it was my server, but it was not. So -- all this was quite odd. Then LJ came back as mysteriously as it left -- and then read as to the reason.
The "one hour" they mention is the time the entire site was down when the attack started, that is, the outage that affected all users. What you experienced were the connection problems they mention that happened during the time when they were fighting off the attack - those affected only some users in varying degrees and at different times.
Whoa, thank you so much! :D
a few times i couldn't access the site but nothing that was a significant inconvenience. so i won't take the extension, but i sincerely appreciate the offer.
that's nice. my account just expired yesterday, so this helps.
Wow, this is great. I honestly haven't expectd anything like this, so...
THANK YOU, LJ!!!
Thanks for making the gesture, it's appreciated.
Thank you so much for the gift, lj! It is very very much appreciated. <3
THANK YOU! Much love to you all! *MWAH!*
Thank you very much! Was blocked from the site for a day, which wasn't even your fault, but your gift is appreciated nonetheless! :)
Well, this is nice. I tend to renew my paid membership a few months ahead of time, so three days plus or minus doesn't really effect me much, but still. The acknowledgment is appreciated, and I'll probably claim mine just for that.
I was barely affected by anything, so I'm not claiming, but it's a very nice gesture and greatly appreciated. Thanks!
