We've had some conversations recently about some of the reasons people buy Paid Accounts. Rather than try to guess, we wanted to ask you why *you* have a Paid (or Permanent) Account. Hence, a poll.

On the first question, we're looking for the handful of top reasons you have a Paid Account, so please check any of the options that were motivating factors for you. On the second, we ask that you try to narrow it down to the single biggest reason. If there was a primary or motivating reason for you that we haven't listed, please do add it in the text box provided.

Poll #1368228 What motivated you to have a Paid Account?

Please select the three to five biggest reasons you have a Paid Account

I've had a paid account so long that I honestly didn't even realize that was a paid-only feature. However, it is in my top 5 reasons. :)

Me too, I didn't realize it was a paid-only feature.

same here, there were a few of those things that I was like 'wait, that's only paid accounts?" Also, before i had a paid account, LJ didn't have ads at all... I originally bought it for the extra user pics, but now I keep it because I'd just hate to go back.

That is almost exactly how I feel. I've been paid since the days when free users only had three userpics. I would hate to lose those AND start seeing ads.

wait, free users have more than 3 userpics now?

this means that if i didn't have a permanent account, i'd definitely be on the fence about renewing.

I think free userpics were doubled to six.

i had zero idea that comment editing was a paid feature either. i just assumed it showed up one day as something i could do. :)

Likewise for me. Many of these features weren't around when I first became a paid member.

I think way back in the day, if I wasn't a paid user I didn't get username.livejournal.com, and that was important to me. :D

I was all about the userpics, and later the layout and customizing options.

...8 years later, I'm still using my original S1 layout, which doesn't even display tags or location. :D

Ah yeah. And you could do webspace forwarding too.
Which was nice.

What skreidle said. There's a lot of features that have been added in the 5+ years since I first got a paid account that I do like, but aren't the primary reason I got one originally.

I adore comment thread expanding, comment editing, no ads, mass edit of security levels of posts but none of those were features (or needed, in the case of ads) when I first went paid.
