We've had some conversations recently about some of the reasons people buy Paid Accounts. Rather than try to guess, we wanted to ask you why *you* have a Paid (or Permanent) Account. Hence, a poll.

On the first question, we're looking for the handful of top reasons you have a Paid Account, so please check any of the options that were motivating factors for you. On the second, we ask that you try to narrow it down to the single biggest reason. If there was a primary or motivating reason for you that we haven't listed, please do add it in the text box provided.

Poll #1368228 What motivated you to have a Paid Account?

Please select the three to five biggest reasons you have a Paid Account

In like vein, asking people if they plan to RENEW their paid account might be useful. If I were up for renewal right now, I'd be on the fence.

Yeah.. if I didn't have a permanent account, I wouldn't be renewing this year. For one, I feel like the management is nowhere near as good as the days before the 6A sale. For two, I just don't feel like they're usually working on features I'd love to see, like making tags more manageable or giving us better customization options that aren't so complicated, or even better backup options.

If you could edit and manage LJ posts the way I can manage photos on Flickr, I'd pay double for years to come.

As it is, I have been posting more and more in other spaces lately and wouldn't renew here if it was optional.

I agree with this. If I didn't have a permanent account here, I would have moved on to a different journaling/blogging service by now.

I had a paid account but felt it wasn't worth it to renew for some of the same reasons thaumata just listed. I didn't like the direction things were going.

I am agreeing with this. If I wasn't already established on LJ with all my friends here, if I wasn't already a permanent member... the place has gone way, way way downhill.

Yeah, I'm curious about that myself. I took myself off autorenew after being discouraged by where things were going.

yep, being that i'm up for renewal this week, i'm on the fence about whether or not to pay for another year. still haven't decided yet. back when i opted to pay for LJ i didn't have to worry about ads, but i guess those days are long gone.

I agree with this too. There's not enough features that distinguish the paid and non-paid accounts in my opinion.

My renewals are automatic, which is how LJ gets all of my money. I keep forgetting that the renewal date is coming up, and the next thing I know, I've got another year of LJ. I don't bother with it much because it's only $20, but if the price ever goes up.

Guh, but I do hate the ads though. Got a paid account before the ads came to LJ and I do not want to go back.

My renewal just passed and I didn't renew because I'm starting to hate LJ, to be honest.

Exactly. I've had a paid account since 2002, and I'm up for renewal in May. At this point, I don't plan to renew. I've been extremely disappointed with the way the company and the service has been run over the last number of years.
