I have a paid account and was wondering why there aren't more 'opt out' options for paid members. One being user pics. I know I've posted this already. Paid members should have the option of opting out of anyone subscribing to their updated userpics. Anyone who has a private journal that's just for them might not want others to be able to subscribe to their icons. The subscription lets any subscribers know when you're online even when you aren't posting. I don't like that at all.
I just wanted to notate that while the ability to edit comments are my current most important reason, the reason I originally got a paid account was the preferential treatment/access to the faster server. I kept the paid account because I liked the greater ability to customize my journal, the ability to start RSS accounts on livejournal, and now I couldn't stand to look at the amount of ads you guys clutter the place up with, so if I decided to stop paying, or couldn't afford to anymore, I would likely end up jumping ship.
I also want to note that had I not been relatively early on in LJ's livespan when I signed up, I probably wouldn't be a user. If I hadn't been a paid user for before both 6 Apart and the current regime, I likely wouldn't have stuck around long enough to become one. There's just been too much stupid, too much drama, and too much effort to turn LJ into a profit machine, instead of a fun place to hang out and share my thoughts.
It's my habit, from back in the days of using a BBS, to contribute to the maintenance of programs or software that I enjoy, and would otherwise be free.
also i'd be good to poll about permas :). afaik they have even more stuff inside.
Speaking of Embedding/domain forwarding, why do I so often get redirected to Russian porn sites and faux-security scan sites (scan4lite4.com) when I try to move from page to page?
COngratulations, you have the one of the latest viruses.
Try Malwarebyte's Anti Malware. That one worked for me.
I so wasn't paying attention and picked more than five for the top one *headdesk* sorry about that. I do have more than one paid journal, so it can count for them. Again, sorry about that.
I just like Live Journal and am happy to pay for it
I would have ticked off this sentence, but there's a flaw here: I started using the basic account (without ads), which hooked me up. I NEVER used the plus account, because I hate ads with a passion. Had there been only the paid or the plus option you wouldn't have seen me again.
However, when I felt that LJ was the site for me (incl. scrapbook and everything) I bought a permanent account.
'cause you see I wouldn't have been happy to continously pay for it. But if you offer me something I believe is for me, that I have to pay for only ONCE that's perfectly fine and I'm indeed happy to have paid for it. This is the difference.
Most people (so far) voted for "No ads when I read or use LiveJournal". That's why I'd like to remind you that it's a good idea to keep the basic account ad-free - 'cause if you confront people with ads right away, even though they just want to try out the basic service and see if LJ is the right choice for them, they feel screwed and may leave without checking all the options first.
You do away with the free accounts, you drop out a lot of people that I'm here to communicate with.
Facebook is moving toward to the Twitter model. Why don't you guys just hang on a bit and see if you get some migration from that little disaster?
i love being able to edit comments.

First paid just to support the site. Now I just can't go without comment editing, scrapbook and userpics.
I'd love to see some attention given to improving scrapbook. It would really motivate me to keep paying for the site.
I got a Basic account, with the intent of going Paid at a later stage if I could get the hang of the platform and liked the features in it and could generally get to know people through it in the long run, the day before Basics were grandfathered out of LJ. Then ads started to encroach even on my Basic account - agreed with whoever likened LJ to PBS: that was my sentiment - and I decided to take advantage of the Paids sale. Hence my journal subtitle, riffing on the TCM slogan.
Userpics and the ability to edit comments come a close second, though.
Being the only one in Bolivia to have a paid account makes me feel speshul, like a Sue >:)
I do not have a paid account right now because I fail to see the need for one.
When LJ was completely ad-free, I had a paid account.
When LJ wound up closing down accounts and communities based on pressure from a self appointed "anti-porn" group who threatened to boycott their advertisers, I decided that I will NEVER pay for LJ until they stop taking advertising of any kind.
Besides, if LJ feels the need to take subsidies from advertisers, they don't need my money, and the extra 'Features' are not worth the price of a paid account.
So, if LJ wants me to buy an account, it needs to cease accepting advertising of any kind.
Ohh. I didn't know that RSS feeds were a paid feature. That's definitely one of my personal perks.
Like so many have said many of the things I've chosen weren't among my original reasons. Primarily it was Userpics and custom moods that persuaded me to get my first paid account. Now there are so many other pluses (no adds, comment editing etc) that I simply can't imagine going back to non paid. It's just a shame that permanent sales always seem to happen when I have no money otherwise I would do that!
