Give More and Permanent Account Sale [Nov. 25th, 2008|03:40 pm]
Paid Members

Hi! This is a quick entry to let you know that LiveJournal will soon be running some of its regular (and not so regular) holiday promotions.
  • Give More. The Give More promotion runs for the entire month of December and it makes your holiday gift of paid time for someone else a little extra special. Not only does the recipient get paid time, they also receive a free userpic upgrade for the same duration of the gifted paid time. If you give someone a year's paid time, for example, they'll also get the userpic upgrade for that year as well. So, the more you give, the more they get. Give to a friend, a soon-to-be-friend, or even surprise someone at random with a bit of holiday cheer.

  • Permanent Account Sale. Would you like to have your Paid Account for life, enjoying all those great features (and more) forever without having to worry about payments ever again? Well, then the Permanent Account Sale is for you! Starting on December 4, we're once again offering the opportunity to buy Permanent Accounts—in additional to all the features of paid accounts, these accounts will include increased storage (from 10 to 15GB) and more userpics (increased from 100 to 150 + up to 44 loyalty userpics). This time around the sale is just for personal journals. If you've been thinking about it or have missed our sales in the past, don't hesitate—the sale only lasts a week and who knows when the next one will be? Act now to make your LiveJournal eternal.

Thanks! Oh, and remember: If you buy a Permanent Account, you can transfer your remaining paid time and userpics to any other LiveJournal user you choose, so that existing paid time won't go to waste.

A suggestion, having read user and staff comments about the permanent user pics count. The phrasing above says "up to 44 loyalty userpics" (implying it could be less, but won't ever be more). If you truly mean to leave permie accounts with max loyalty user pics, the better phrasing would be "150 + max loyalty userpics - currently 44, but they will continue to increase over time as they have in the past" or something close to it? That might stop the comments freaking out about being limited to 44 loyalty userpics.

I'm more curious why they changed it. Not that I really mind, as I'm already having trouble filling up my 114 userpics ;)
But still, at first, they said "The maximum number!!" which was then 100+44 loyalty = 144 for everyone who bought a permanent account (no matter the number of loyalty pics they have rightfully earned), increasing as the max of loyalty pics increased.
Now, it's the max of the normal number of userpics (150), plus the loyalty pics you've earned, up to 44 (and increasing), so not automatically the max of loyalty pics. (Does this explanation make any sense?)

Even though 150 is more than the 144 they said we'd get for buying a permanent account, I'm still wondering why they changed this. I couldn't find 194 userpics if my life depended on it, though!

Sweet. Nice that you guys are doing a permanent sale when your recent policy changes - and complete lack of caring for your members - make me regret getting my own permanent account, if only because I'm stuck with sunk money.

Forgive me if I don't want to send another cent to my Russian overlords.

I'm going to try and get the lifetime subsription this time - just have to switch around some funds, etc... I've been journal-ing on lj for approx. 7 years now, with the last few years being a paid member. I failed to get in on the $100 subscription, which I could kick myself in the butt for but considering price increases, etc... at the current rate, it'll take me almost 9 - 10 years to break even and less if the price actually increases, which it always does. Since I've already become a lifetime member with various other associations($400 to one horse association I hardly use) which I felt worthwhile at the time, this one is right up there beside them in line. I can give the rest of my current 'paid' time to my daughter as she doesn't have a paid account at the moment.

Is there a limit to the number of permanent accounts on sale?

All things considered $175 is just too much money.

I'm glad I didn't buy one for $99 last time at the rate things are going now; but still, it was a more realistic price to consider.

Better if the charitable donation was optional rather than enforced.

LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one impatient. I keep refreshing my "Update User Pics" page to see my new obscene limit!

I don't get this. Is everyone else seeing something I'm not? I've been trying all morning to find this item in the gift shop to no avail. Where is it? How does one buy what they're selling? Aurggghhhhhh!

Why is there no option to buy a permanent account (gift) in the Gift Shop? Shouldn't the sale have begun by now? :(

'Shouldn't the sale have begun by now?'

It should have, but it hasn't. I really wish they would post an announcement or something.

I contacted support, and they e-mailed me back saying the sale would begin later today. LATER? I don't know where you guys are, but it's evening where I am. So, we've waited all day for them to actually deem to ACCEPT our hard earned money? In these days and times that is criminal.

4 hours later and still not up.
Did you e-mail them the link to all these comments to show how their procrastination is possibly losing them business?

Is it possible to gift remaining time to more than one user? Say, if I had a year left, six months to one, six months to another? Or, three months each to four users?

Any idea what the "Gift a friend your remaining paid time" link is? I'm going wild searching the site for that.

Oh, and that reminds me.. Still not received the link to choose the charity. :(

I have a friend who already has a paid account. Can I buy her a gift of a year's paid time, but have it start in a few months' time, when her paid time ends? Or does it have to start now, so that her account will be doubly paid for some months?
