Give More and Permanent Account Sale [Nov. 25th, 2008|03:40 pm]

Hi! This is a quick entry to let you know that LiveJournal will soon be running some of its regular (and not so regular) holiday promotions.
  • Give More. The Give More promotion runs for the entire month of December and it makes your holiday gift of paid time for someone else a little extra special. Not only does the recipient get paid time, they also receive a free userpic upgrade for the same duration of the gifted paid time. If you give someone a year's paid time, for example, they'll also get the userpic upgrade for that year as well. So, the more you give, the more they get. Give to a friend, a soon-to-be-friend, or even surprise someone at random with a bit of holiday cheer.

  • Permanent Account Sale. Would you like to have your Paid Account for life, enjoying all those great features (and more) forever without having to worry about payments ever again? Well, then the Permanent Account Sale is for you! Starting on December 4, we're once again offering the opportunity to buy Permanent Accounts—in additional to all the features of paid accounts, these accounts will include increased storage (from 10 to 15GB) and more userpics (increased from 100 to 150 + up to 44 loyalty userpics). This time around the sale is just for personal journals. If you've been thinking about it or have missed our sales in the past, don't hesitate—the sale only lasts a week and who knows when the next one will be? Act now to make your LiveJournal eternal.

Thanks! Oh, and remember: If you buy a Permanent Account, you can transfer your remaining paid time and userpics to any other LiveJournal user you choose, so that existing paid time won't go to waste.

Oh geez, I always told myself I'd get one next time there was a sale, but the Australian dollar is so insanely bad at the moment. US$175 would end up translating to...getting close to AU$300, maybe more. =_=

The userpics and storage space for all Permanent Account holders will be upgraded on December 4th, when the sale begins.

This IS really bad... I remembering when it was 2004 or 2005 when the last chance for a perm account was and there the price was 150 bucks... How do you explain 25 bucks more? Because of the financial crisis?

Oh dear... I was very interested in a perm account, I'm a paid member since 3 years now, but 175 bucks... no... definitly not!

It's a combination of
A: Inflation
and B: Because they can.

The fact is, they have no obligation to offer permanent accounts at all. They're perfectly justified in charging any amount they want, with no reasons behind it.

Or you could take the fact that every time they have gone on sale, the price has gone up. The first time, they were only $100.

Originally, permanent accounts weren't even offered for sale, so really one could consider it a bargain.

Just not worth it.

I just cross-post to my LJ these days. My current paid time is expiring in December, and I know I won't be renewing. I've already dropped about ~$100 on this site already. Sort of seems like money wasted in hindsight.

I think I'm going to do it. There is nothing to say they won't start hiking the yearly rate soon too. The more enhancements they make, the more they need to pay for it. If everyone had a paid account today, they wouldn't have any future cash flow so it 'sort of' makes sense they make it a bit higher reach.

*sigh* I'd love to have a permanent account, but at the way the Aussie dollar is now, that's about $310 Australians.. that's my weeks rent, so unless I win lotto...

So it's not possible to transfer the paid time into the price of switching to a permanent account, is it? :X Because I have paid time until 2011, and wouldn't mind turning that into a discount in a permanent account instead.

More a question out of curiosity than anything. :X

No, it's not. But the Paid time then becomes something you can give to someone else. When you get your Permanent Account, you will have the option of choosing someone to give that time to.

I regret not buying a permanent account back in 2002. I'd consider paying $100 for a permanent account now like I would have back then, but certainly not $175. With the way things have been and continue to be mishandled, I don't trust LiveJournal to even be in existence in the next few years.

This time around the sale is just for personal journals.

I'm just trying to clarify for a group. We can't purchase a permanent account for a community?
