I've tried. But only to find out that after I had uploaded more than 100 icons the page wouldn't load anymore.
Also if you upload anything else than private pictures they will delete them. They also have rules about nudity yet the admins of the site break those rules themselves.
I just felt that wasn't a site I would want to be part of.

That much for storage.

P.S. That was about a year ago, maybe things are different now but I only made negative experiences with their storage stuff.

I had some problems with the rules about appropriate content there too, with regards to the icons that show up on the main page.

When a friend and I reported a few to support (it was no more than like two each) for being inappropriate to be FEATURED on the mainpage that anyone gets regardless of age, we got nasty emails from the support staff, basically saying that if we didn't like it, we could go elsewhere.

I actually stopped using GJ all together for a while after that, now (and before) I only use it for RPG accounts, because it's really hard to have only 6 icons when you're trying to portray a character, and really not cost effective to pay for accounts for fictional characters.

They've revoked the storage, afaik. You try to click on it and it tells you to go to photobucket or something.

Well icons are purged from GJ if the journal is idle for an arbitrary amount of time (I can't find any explanation of their formula for doing it but it seems like after only a couple of weeks without posting you start losing them) and for all practical purposes after about 400 icons, the upload page takes so long to load you can't really upload any more.

Right now LJ has better communities than I seem to find searching on GJ (I use GJ for RPG journals because of the icon issue, and that seems to be mostly what you find active over there) but if a bunch of people were to move, that wouldn't be the case anymore.

GJ's support is also not that great and the hidden ads can be really annoying when you accidentally click on them in the middle of something (like icon upload), but it's a free service, so you get what you pay for.

If you mean 'took the source code LJ offers/sells' then yes it is a rip-off clone.

(I am not sure if LJ sells it or offers it for free or if it was different at some point, thus I put in both)

Who really needs 1000 icons? I don't even use the 138 I've got uploaded XD

I can have 118, but usually keep it at about the 75 mark and hardly use many of those! 1000 icons is a bit much, methinks.
