|This Time It's Permanent
||[Jun. 19th, 2007|03:30 pm]
Hey everyone. I wanted to give you a quick heads up that we just announced details of the Permanent Account sale in news. Click over to read all the details! There's also a related post in lj_biz.|
You really must believe we're stupid. After your recent Strikethrough fiasco who knows whom you'll target next.
A few months ago, I was actually regretting that I hadn't gotten a permanent account when they were first offered, especially as none of the money I've paid in can be applied to a permanent account if I were to buy in now.
At this point, though, I've turned off my automatic payment and can't imagine spending the money without knowing the TOS to which I'll be agreeing.
The fact that this offer comes before we see the new, clarified TOS makes me wonder if Six Apart thinks we're all idiots. The fact that Six Apart is only planning to donate to the EFF if we buy in within the first 36 hours makes me doubt their commitment to electronic freedom and to LJs fan base.
I'm opting out.
So let me get this straight...
You have not:
- Clarified your policies
- Appear to be applying some vague standard for what will and will not be acceptable on LJ...a standard which you have not developed yet
- Reimbursed people who had their LJs unjustly suspended by your boneheadded move.
- Reimbursed people who were locked out of posting to their LJs due to the DOS attack two days before and two days after you unjustly deleted journals
And you want me to give you $150 for a permanent account?
I. Don't. Think. So.
Do you want to know what I did with the $150 I was going to give you for that permanent account?
- I paid $40 to InsaneJournal for a permanent account.
- I paid $25 to PhotoBucket for a Pro Account.
- I donated $25 to the ACLU (which, I know, has no bearing on a private business like 6A/LJ)
As for you?
You lose hardcore.
My paid account doesn't run out until July 2008. You can bet your sweet corporate ass I'll be watching 6A/LJ very closely before I even consider
paying you people another dime.
Not buying a permanent account, not renewing any of my paid accounts.
You treated us badly.
I was thinking about buying a permanent account a few months ago, but now no, thanks.

Thanks, but no thanks.
This time last year, I would have said "Oh fuck yeah!" and fork out the $150 for it.
But now I'm in that frame of mine that says...if LJ and SixApart can just delete communities and journals once without explanation, what's stopping them from doing it again at a later date for a different reason other than the one that happened last month?
The answer...absolutely nothing.
I can't actually put all the blame on LJ, but since it's fallen to "Big Business", they are partially to blame.
I've already cancelled my payment for extra userpics. Come December, I'll make a decision about continuing my payments for a paid account.
Okay it's June 21st and I am all ready to sign up for the permanent account (I am trusting you guys will not become lemmings in the future like with the great strickthrough disaster....you are trying and I love it here). BUT....I go to the gift shop and that is not an option showing. I go to the area with the announcement and link and that is not an option.....What's up?????
BTW....what of the "time left" on my current paid account?
I am at the shop but don't see a choice for the permanent account? HELP! Me want!!

I'm at the gift shop and there is no option to buy a permanent account. I have one but I want to purchase one for my other journal.
I have accepted your apologies for the previous drama but offering paid accounts and not having the option enabled at the gift shop is highly unprofessional and cruel.

Hi! I made my account permanent, but what's happening now with the rest of the money I paid for my "paid account" in November 2006? These are about $10 more.

So what happens if you buy or already bought a permanent account and delete it? Will your username ever be purged for someone else to use? Or will you always have an account, even if all your entries are purged?
To Whom It May Concern:
I didn't really know where else to post this, but pardon that it's irrelevant to the post on which it's being commented. I've been using LiveJournal for four years and have been a paying customer for nearly two, and as such I've grown kind of accustomed to the "older" site schemes. When I logged into another one of my accounts today and noticed that Horizon was the default scheme, I moved to the Viewing Options
page to change it to one of the two styles I was used to. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I found the only options were Horizon, Vertigo, and Lynx! I'm not sure how long this change has been live, or even if it is an intentional change, but I think I and many other members (paying, plus, or free) would appreciate it if you would reinstate the "older" styles that seem to have been phased out.
Thank you for your time,
Colin Spence (deltashade
Appropos of nothing in particular...
Why isn't there a "permmembers" (or "permanentmembers") community.
No, I can't really think of anything it would be used for, other than the e-peen aspect of it, and maybe to see just how many people have permanent accounts, but since when has that stopped people?
