beta testing: toll-free voice posting [Jan. 26th, 2007|05:34 pm]

Earlier today we'd found that our voice post phone numbers weren't accepting calls. We're working with our provider to get the problem fixed as soon as we can. In the meantime, hachi rushed to finish setting up a different method of voice posting. We've managed to get a toll-free number for voice posts!

We've been working on this for a while, so while we weren't expecting to have this ready for today, we figured that we might as well try. In particular, it hasn't been stressed under load -- there may be some bumps along the way. So with that in mind, please feel free to set up voice posting if you haven't done so already, and then call 1-888-840-6189 to make a voice post from anywhere in the continental United States. :)

(Unfortunately, if you aren't in the US, you won't be able to use this number. We're still looking for a good international provider -- if you have one you'd like to suggest, please let us know!)

EDIT: This is now our primary voiceposting number -- the existing numbers have proven to be incredibly unreliable, so we're migrating to just this number. Update your contacts lists!

EDIT EDIT: We'll be working on getting alternate numbers, for all of you who've commented saying that this one doesn't work for you (for whatever reason). Keep an eye on news :)

And what about paid members who aren't in the US? I'd quite like to be able to make a voice post at some point before my account expires, thank you.

I live in Australia and I just use the 0011 1 code to get into America and use the American phone numbers - can I use the codes?

So basically, I've paid for a year's membership, primarily for voice posting, and can now not do so because you've switched to a number that doesn't work for me.

Refund or extra time credit, NOW. Seriously, this is bullshit. I was quite happy paying long distance to call Buffalo. Could you not keep ONE freaking number that could be called for those outside the continental US, or do you just not care about users outside your own country?

This would have been nice to know before I had to go searching to see if the numbers changed, or something, after trying to voice post for three days and getting nothing but dead air.

I was searching to see if the number had changed without my being aware, and the only reason I found this posting is because I clicked in the FAQs to try and find the page with the vp numbers.

Could this not have been sent in an email notification to paid users? I've tried this new number, and all I get is a busy signal. This is hardly good use of my paid account money.

Urk. Voice-posting from Canada still doesn't work, six weeks after you switched to the 888 numbers. Can you please update with your plans for fixing this? Six weeks is a pretty long time for a service we've paid for.

Sounds awesome...now for Canada!!

In other news, I had a question!
I've been searching all over, but I can't seem to find it...if I sign up for automatic payments, is there a way to change the billing address later on? I'm moving in about three months, and my address right now won't forward mail once I'm gone. Thanks!

Why would bother continuing to pay these people for services they don't even bother to maintain?

can't use number at all, or just can't use it for free? I am happy to call an American number to do voice post and pay for it, if you let us know what numbers to use... I am in England.

Yeah. I'm in Rhode Island, which is still part of the US as far as I know, and I keep getting a busy signal every time I call. From two different phones. Yet the number works for my friend in Michigan, so....what's up, dudes? Can't a girl drunkenly voice post in peace?

I am also in RI, and I'm getting a busy signal too. Maybe we've seceded from the union and no one told us?

Can I get retroactive voice posts seeing as I'm paying for this part of my paid account and not able to use it due to the fact that I'm about two hours north of the border?

Seriously, it's been more than a month now and you still have nothing for us?

I used to use the U.S. numbers all the time and just pay the long distance. So in reality, your cool new way to help me out has actually screwed me over.

THANKS FOR TAKING MY MONEY LJ! :D

Okay. I've wanted to make a phonepost since before Valentine's Day. It was seriously important to me. Since i live in Canada, however, it's not possible.

I have a Permanent Account. Phone posting is not something that i don't do often but since i paid a lot of money for my account, i'd like to be able to use the feature whenever i want.

You guys have had more than a month to get this straightened out. You asked for suggestions and just skimming through the comments, i can see LOTS! Are you doing anything to fix it or are all us Internationl folk just out of luck for good?
