beta testing: toll-free voice posting [Jan. 26th, 2007|05:34 pm]

Earlier today we'd found that our voice post phone numbers weren't accepting calls. We're working with our provider to get the problem fixed as soon as we can. In the meantime, hachi rushed to finish setting up a different method of voice posting. We've managed to get a toll-free number for voice posts!

We've been working on this for a while, so while we weren't expecting to have this ready for today, we figured that we might as well try. In particular, it hasn't been stressed under load -- there may be some bumps along the way. So with that in mind, please feel free to set up voice posting if you haven't done so already, and then call 1-888-840-6189 to make a voice post from anywhere in the continental United States. :)

(Unfortunately, if you aren't in the US, you won't be able to use this number. We're still looking for a good international provider -- if you have one you'd like to suggest, please let us know!)

EDIT: This is now our primary voiceposting number -- the existing numbers have proven to be incredibly unreliable, so we're migrating to just this number. Update your contacts lists!

EDIT EDIT: We'll be working on getting alternate numbers, for all of you who've commented saying that this one doesn't work for you (for whatever reason). Keep an eye on news :)

Australian Telcos

Here's three contacts to get you started. I'm sure your technical people can get in contact with their technical people and work out if something can happen.

Telstra is the largest carrier in Australia.

Optus is the second largest

and a bonus carrier

I don't know if anyone has complained yet (so I'll step up...) but last I checked, Alaska was still a part of the United States.

I really really really really really REALLY hate toll-free numbers that do not work in Alaska!

I'm just sayin... it's stupid and I hate it.

A Canadian # would make having a paid account actually worth while, so please find us one (we are so close by after all). Why not try Shaw?

me too

I was just looking at mobile posting options yesterday and was momentarily excited by phone posts. Not a great option for Canadians.

It's working for me -- can you double-check the number you're calling?

Okay five days later now... when the hell are the old numbers going back up? Any of them? Could we have an update here?

Further, I want an extension of paid time for this, since I primarily have a paid account to phone post and now cannot do so (Canadian). I used to call the Buffalo number (and I didn't mind the long distance really, so I'll take the old set up over this freaking toll-free only good in the US number ANY DAY). I have a project I am working on that I was counting on phone posts for, and now it will be delayed due to a nearly week-long outage.

LOL, I like that I attempted to post a comment bitching about the fact that LJ likes to keep adding new things without fixing the problems it already has, and I got that "missing parameters" or whatever the hell it is error instead.

THANKS, LIVEJOURNAL.

Except you'd be replying to a post where we said that we identified broken voice posting numbers and we came up with a resolution to the problem, thus rendering your point moot. ;)

This has been going on for months. Are we getting reimbursed for these months that we've missed?

I have to agree, especially seeing as it was only ever offered for Americans. Sure, you can dial the numbers from another country but it costs an awful lot of money. I love voice posts but hate the fact i'm paying for something I can very rarely use..and now can't at all.

Has there been a time limit placed on voice posts? I've noticed recently that all my posts cut off at 5:08, so have several others on my f-list. Is there a cap in place, or is there something wrong that we need to adjust?

Grrr...

And here I'd been thinking the problem was my cell phone network; it would probably have been a good idea to email paid users about this.

I just tried to dial in, and for my cell phone, got the message that the number was outside of my calling area - although my calling area is the entire United States. So I tried the landline, and got a fast busy signal.

This is pretty aggravating.

Re: Grrr...

Chalk me up as another paid member who thinks that we should be reimbursed for this - voice posts are the single biggest reason I have to be a paid member. The 888 number doesn't work - or not for me, anyway - and I don't have any other way to make voice posts.

How much longer is this going to continue? I've already missed posting a number of things that I would have really liked to have recorded, and I'm getting pretty pissed off.
