|LiveJournal's new notifications system
||[Sep. 5th, 2006|03:02 pm]
Today we launched LiveJournal's new notifications system to Paid members. The notifications system will soon be launching to all LJ users, but we wanted to give Paid account holders a chance to use it early. (Permanent account holders already have been using it in a sneak preview, so you can hit them up for pointers!)|
With the new system, you can set up notifications for all types of things including when someone adds you as a friend. Go to the Manage Settings page to set your preferences. Also look for the icon in profile pages and journals to track updates and changes. Just check in to your Message Center to keep up to date on the LJ activity that's most important to you.
Paid and Permanent account holders have the most subscriptions available and also have the extra options to get notified when a user uploads a new userpic and when users add new comments to individual comment threads. We'll also be expanding the types of subscriptions that are available only to Paid users over the coming months. Visit the FAQ to find out the different limits and options for each account level.
Please feel free to spread the word to other Paid account holders you know. The engineers are still working out bugs in this complex system, but if you find something you think we should know about please leave your feedback on this post in lj_releases.
I am a permanent member, and have been playing with this for a while and LOVE it!!!
Do you have any input for those of us who just got the feature? Would like to know some of its perks!
well I make icons for people. . .so if I go to a random icon community, and someone wants an icon and I make it for them, then I know whne they upload it, and how they listed it (I also do that for some of my firends, but only cause it makes me feel special to have them use the icons I made them)
I used it for someone not on my friends list to know when they updated, so that I didn't have to go to her journal every so often to check. . .
I am using it to watch some replies in a certain community, because the question that was asked interested me, and this way I can check back and see if anyone else has said anything.
Is that a good start?
That's definitely a good start! I see you commented on my other LJ through the message center, so I will check out over there. :-)
the only issue I had with the message center and comments in my journal, is that the header in my email would be different. . .normally it says, "livejournaler name" - reply to your comment/post but if you opt to have that box (in the settings checked) then you get emails that say "Livejournal" - comment, something like that, not telling me who it was or where it was from, but that is just me.
That issue should be fixed now, I think? It'll only say "LiveJournal" if it's NOT a comment notification, otherwise it says "username - LJ Comment"
Could you be flouting your permanentness any more?
I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. . .but I mean I totally could with all 130some of my icons ;)
I don't have many options to use my lj perm icon :P
I guess to me "flouting" my lj status is no different than "flouting" that I have been to France and Spain. . .
Permanent members rule! :D
I found how to compare them one time but then lost it, what are the differences between Paid and Permanent?
Other than the permanence of them :P
Is that what you were talking about?
Permanent just get a few more perks than paid, that's about it, and we won't ahve to pay for our lj all the time. . .which leaves us money to get paid accounts for others ;)
You mean "As I am a permanent member, permanent members rule!"
Don't you go putting words into my mouth!
