We’ve just added a fun new feature for Paid and Permanent account holders: the userpic selector! To try it out, just hit the new “Browse” button next to your userpic dropdown on the Update Journal, Edit Entry and “Quick Reply” comment forms.

You can scroll through thumbnail previews of your userpics as well as search for them by keywords. This feature is an excellent tool for those of you who have a ton of userpics.

UPDATE: Some people have mentioned that they can't get the userpic selector to work when they're commenting on posts in communities. Please try reloading the page (SHIFT+Refresh, or clear your cache) to get the updated files, and try again.

black and grey is a weird choice but nicely done nonetheless

Huh. Not bad! Now, if I ever bother to make more than 15 icons, maybe it'll actually come in handy. XD

Excellent -- GJ's been doing this on all accounts for ages, although they automatically show the image you select instead of having to wait for all of them to load. It's faster that way. Considering we're going on three minutes and counting, on a T1 line, and still no pics...

the real question is: what's up with these obnoxious video place holders?

Boring and useless to me ;) I'd rather have the ability to display a month's worth of entries in one go (the actual entries, not just the page of links for each day's entries). I could be missing something and this actually does exist, though.

You should make a
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<lj-user="suggestions">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

You should make a <lj-user="suggestions"> post about this, and perhaps it will be implemented.

Awesome!

One small suggestion: double-clicking on an icon should select it. Too much mouse moving at the moment.

Just clicking on it once selects it, no?

Can you select the userpic directly from the browse window, because that didn't work for me. I would also prefer smaller text so that more icons fit in the window.

Click on the image and then on the "select" button in the down left corner.

Love it! Only ever used one icon in my two and a half years on LJ - just never bothered with them before - but it's a great idea and will definitely make me dip more of a toe into iconnage.

Using the latest FireFox on XP Pro on my office LAN, it doesn't seem to do anything - just pops up an immovable window that obscures the whole page, preventing reading of comments while thumbs load, and says "loading" with no indication that it's actually doing anything.

I'm willing to guess this is growing pains, but how long should we expect it to take to load?

and is there *any* way it can go into a pop up window rather than a fake window in a new layer? would be nice to read other comments while that interminable load happens...

I second this report. I'm using FireFox 1.0.7 on Windows XP Pro, and I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm not seeing anything denied in my firewall logs, so I'm assuming it's not a "non-standard port" issue...
