3 bonus months [Aug. 15th, 2005|02:12 pm]

[ryanfitz]
To coincide with the launch of automatic payments announced in the latest news post, we are providing an exclusive offer for existing paid account holders (as of 8/14/05). Get three months of bonus paid time when you switch your account to automatic payments and select the 12-month billing cycle. This offer ends October 15, 2005. Read the fine print.

By the way, our auto-magical new system will take into account your remaining paid time and prorate your charges, so if you have six months of remaining paid time and you sign up for automatic payments on a 12-month billing cycle, then you’ll have a total of 15 months of paid time and only be charged $9.98 (half of $19.95).

I went to do the automatic payment thing, and it says I'll be billed 29.95 every 12 months, but it's charging me 3.21 today. (I added on the extra userpics).

I signed up 7/8/05.

And if we don't do the automatic payment thing and just leave it as it is, do we still pay 19.95 or are we charged with $25?

According to the shop, manual payments still cost $25

Maybe you have it already I dunno. But now that we have 100 user icons it would be nice to be able to do a bulk upload to our user pics. Basically the same little box with the option to upload 20 at a time. 100 user pics is a lot to upload one at a time.

I like your icon, even if it is a little seizure-inducing.

I'm getting the hang up/freeze at billing too. Doesn't look like it's charged me, but I don't want to try it again until I'm sure it's fixed. Once it works though, I'm going automatic, baby! Thanks!

You get an email confirmation once payment goes through. I couldn't get it to go until I tried submitting it using Firefox.

I would've liked to have seen this before I renewed my yearly account on the 4 of this month. Grrrrr

I'm skeptical. But I have a permanent account, so whatever. It'll probably very popular, and maybe easier for you guys at LiveJournal to handle as well.

I had some thoughts on this, which I wrote about. No need to incorporate too much negative stuff in the news thread. More power to you. I don't really understand, but I ♥ livejournal anyway.

eeeh.. what's the benefit for LJ to store my credit card number somewhere in database for making annual charges, so you even offer a discount to lead people to do this? :-)

Well gee. You get five bucks off per year (manual payment per year is $25) and you get three free months for setting up recurring payments.

I entered my information and clicked on the "finish" button, which grayed out, before I noticed that the link redirects to an https:// page. Is this a scam site that somehow hijacked the software? I know that http2 and https names are usually the culprits in paypal hacks, and I need to know if I should freeze my credit card.

https:// is an SSL-encrypted HTTP and is often used while transferring sensitive information, like credit card number and so on.. nothing wrong with https:// itself, the matter is the URL after. It's just another (secured) way to access the site.

For clarification's sake…

If I have plenty of remaining paid time, and I want to sign up for automatic payments, will I be charged for anything ~now~?

Yes, you will be charged a small, prorated amount (depending on how many months you need) and then your paid time totals one year, and today of next year will be the next time you will be charged in full.

Payment form is hanging for me too - I'm on Safari OSX Tiger.
I'll try it from my XP machine via IE later tonight.

Same behavior as noted above - hangs on submit.

You can't enter a non-US address, by the way.

Sorry about that.

We had some problems with this earlier that we believe are fixed now. If you try again and still have problems, please let us know via the Support form: http://www.livejournal.com/support/submit.bml (select "Account Payments" as the Problem Area). It's a little harder for us to debug non-US issues since we're all in the US, so we appreciate the extra patience.

One thing that's unclear from the FAQ on this subject. Supposed you currently have a paid account, with the add on of extra userpics, but they have slightly different expiration times. What happens when you then set up the account for automatic renewal (say, for example, that the paid account renews in June, but the extra pics in July)?

When going though the basics up to putting in payment info, I selected the extra userpics option of the automatic renewal, my main paid account time runs out end of this month, but my extra userpics was renewed for 12 months last month..
According to the cart, I have to pay for 11 months paid user time, and 1 month for the pics, so by the looks of it you pay up the difference between them, and then both renew/expire on the same date.

Will you be enabling Paypal for automatic payments before this offer ends? Also, if it's possible to turn off automatic payments anytime (as the FAQ claims), is it technically possible to turn them on, be charged once, get the three months free and turn automatic payments off right after?

For the first year, no. If you turn off your automatic payment before the 12 month cycle that will start when you turn it on, you will no longer receive the three extra months. What you can do is turn it on, let the year run, let it renew, get your three extra months computed once it renews your year, then turn it off.

When I go to sign up for the automatic payment for 12 months, it says it wants to charge me $4.95 today. Why? I have until 5-16-06 until my current paid status is up.

Recurring payments are for a year at a time. $4.95 will pay your account up until August 15, 2006.
