I upgraded to automatic payments a few hours before this notice (and probably the one about telling people not to do it for a while), and I was charged $6.50-ish, and then was told when I'd be billed $20 (some time next year). What was that payment about? And am I getting 3 months free?
Ah, maybe it's got something to do with paying for my remaining months. I dunno, whatever.
Nope. The way I'm understanding it is that you'd essentially pay a buck or two for the last two weeks, which would cause your account to be pre-paid for the entirety of the next 12 months. Then, next August 15, if you were still signed up for automatic billing, you'd get three free months before having to pay again.
Will there be any options for British/European/non-americans who dont have Visa/Mastercard/Amex?
Thankfully I do have a visa card for my savings account so I can still participate with a couple of bank transfers among myself, but my main bank/card uses a Maestro/Switch (or sometimes solo) cards and Im not the only one.
Most people I know only tend to have one of the latter options as visa is harder to get hold of over here in the UK (Most UK banks issue Maestro cards now) so they wont be able to use automatic payments under the current system.
The only reason I have a Visa myself is because I asked for one to be able to purchase things from outside Europe.
We only ever have Visa Credit over here. Im not sure how the Visa card from the woolich (or was it nationwide) works...

Could you clarify this?
"By the way, our auto-magical new system will take into account your remaining paid time and prorate your charges, so if you have six months of remaining paid time and you sign up for automatic payments on a 12-month billing cycle, then you’ll have a total of 15 months of paid time and only be charged $9.98 (half of $19.95)."

Re: Oh, and...
It means that if you currently have six months of paid time, they will charge you for another six months, so that your annual payment is today, of next year.
The final page with credit card information went grey and hung up. I closed the window. Did this payment go through to my cc or not? And..I don't have Foxfire or paypal.....trust issues.
So, the main question is...did that initial charge go through?
If you used IE and it hung, it likely did not go through.
As a rule, I don't use IE because of trust issues. IE security protocols get hacked more often than Opera, Firefox or any other browser. So yeah.
PayPal's not an option for recurring payments anyway. :)
I tried entering a credit card and it said: Unable to generate MU request.
What does that mean?

I got that, too.
permanent account holder here! woo hoo!!!!!!
I put my credit card information in and clicked "finish" and nothing happened. grumble. I didn't get an e-mail, so I'm assuming it didn't go through. Please let us know when it's fixed.
This was a browser-related issue which has since been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I got an error message the three times I tried to set up the auto-payment. Just looked at my bank account, and I have 3 $1 charges on it. I don't want to pay for my account 3 times - HELP!!!!
Went to sign up for the automatic renewal & when I clicked the "finish" button...it just sat there. Don't know if went thru or not.......this is being taken from my checking acct so I don't want to redo it & B billed 2 x's! Let us know if it's just an overload or what plz. Thanks
