As many of you have probably noticed, payments aren't going through automatically reliably anymore. PayPal is supposed to notify our servers when a payment happens, then your payment is automatically processed. But in the past week, we're losing up to 1 in 5 of the payment notifications and then have to process them by hand.

Fortunately, we have all the raw records and can still get to them.

Unfortunately, there's only one person doing this (sherm) and he's overworked now... he used to handle a few payment issues per day, now he's doing tons.

We talked to another site that uses PayPal in the same way we do and they're also experiencing problems, so it's not our problem. PayPal has yet to get back to us (grrr) so we're just hoping things will get resolved in time.

In the meantime, be patient while sherm manually enters your payments.

is it any more effective to just get your own merchant account and accept credit cards directly?

We looked into it.

It's just not worth it.... too many issues/fees/inconveniences.

PayPal & IBill, while not ideal, are better than the alternatives.

iBill has a larger problem: they take a huge cut of the money.

At least with PayPal we get the bulk of the payment.

I maintain a commercial site (http://www.adornedsurface.com/) and I can tell you, we've had some PayPal problems too--exactly like what you're describing. But if you're waiting for PayPal to do something about it you may be waiting very long time.I was able to tweak our cart script and that fixed it. for now.

Hi Sherm, what is the wait time that you estimate you have?
I bought an account for a new user yesterday because he was having so many problems with the free servers, I'd like to give him a rough estimate of how long...

since i've long since forogtten my paypal info, i just use the phone to get my livejournal account..

amazon has an honor box system thats roughly the same as paypal. i use it without any problems. maybe that would be a temporary or better solution?

problems with my account

I've noticed recently, at least a few times a week when i access my account, i'll go to update my journal and all i get is a blank page, if i go to view my friend's page it says i have no freinds defined. Damnit i have friends, really i swear i do :) but i was just wondering if this is a problem only i'm having, or if its something with the system itself

Shouldn't this probably go in news? This affects all users, especially since the free users who want to upgrade will probably be the most distressed. If they're in paidmembers, then they haven't been affected by the issue.

I am one of the founders of a group devoted to getting rid of PayPal. They have stolen too much money from too many innocent people (including ME). We hope to get enough stories to put pressure on the Cal. Atty Gen's office to SHUT THEM DOWN.

Man I just detest PayPal. I hope you never have a real problem with them. Then you will experience the joy of them outright lying to you as well as avoiding you.

PP stole $500 from me and I'd never even HEARD ofthem let alone had an account. When I tried to pursue with them the name of th erecipient of my funds, they stalled, lied, and finally flat out refused. They also refused to tell the police dept or my lawyer.

PP went into another man's account - he was on SS and didn't even own a computer! - and cleaned him out. All they needed was the bank account number.

Hi I had problems with paypal so I went to iBill and it went thru real quick.I have a question I pd for only 6 month if i wanted to pay for a whole year do I have to wait to do when. I have to renew it or just go ahead add it to the 6 months I already pd for I was kinda wondering.

i paid....

I paid for an account a week ago, and received no email notification from LJ that it was received. (However, I did get my PayPal invoice to ensure me that the money WAS actually taken out of my account) I have submitted about 5 support requests; no one has answered back. WHAT IS GOING ON???

First off, thanks for getting my payment processed.. I'm starting to get my journal moving.

It does seem though like 2 or three things are happening at once to compound the situation: (1) paypal delay, (2) no posting on paypal payment page or support page mentioning this was happening, (3) inability to see your own help tickets even with the auth code.

The combination left me feeling rather frustrated and turned off initially...

Please give us a timeline..

I was bought a paid account by cobaltblue last week and it has still not been processed. I was patient over the holidays knowing everyone was away and not workign hard. Now that it is the new wekk, can I please be notified as to when this will be taken care of or how long I will have to wait??

Also..will the effctive date start on the day YOU process the payments, NOT the day Paypal took the money from her??

I paid for a LiveJournal account on 11-20-2001, and according to PayPal the money was transferred to LiveJournal on that date. As of now, I'm still being shown as a free user. I called about this and was told to email Sherm, which I did on 11-23-2001. Apparently he's extremely busy, because I have yet to receive any response at all.

I'm having a great deal of trouble getting to anything in LiveJournal via the free servers, which was why I decided to buy an account in the first place.

Exactly when can I expect to have my account credited?

I got a problem here!!!!

I paid for an account last night (11/26) and PayPal says that the money was given to you guys (livejournal). But I have no login, no code, no email, no nothing!!!!! Could someone PLEASE email me and tell me what the heck to do??? I can't cancel the payment, it's already gone through the bank!! I'm at emibaby@hotmail.com. I have sent 2 Support Requests and they've not been answered. PLEASE help me!!!!!

You may also wish to let your users know that PayPal doesn't always transfer the money correctly.

In my case, I sent someone $20 and they charged me $200.

I am still fighting them to get my money back, but I won't ever use them again.

My account expired after I paid!

Ok.
I paid.
I got an email how I had 15 days to pay for my account /after/ I paid.
Now my account is expired.

I'm not happy.
What are we doing to fix this?
