Just wanted to let you know that if you haven't voted yet, please do so by writing us in as your choice for the Services and Personal categories of the Webby Awards. If you have voted already, please get out the vote! The votes cast now count every bit as much as any other vote, and all will be needed if we are going to be sure of winning this thing.

Oh... just as a side note, I wanted to thank all of you for putting up with these messages. With any luck, we will establish a clear lead (something more than 1% would be nice...) in both the Services and Personal categories, and be able to cruise in to victory without any more slipping in the polls or setbacks, but, as many of you know, the odds have been stacked against us in this whole race. It says a lot about LiveJournal as a community and as a site that we have been able to take the lead against bigger, better known sites in a race that was fundamentally unfair. Let's win this thing first... and with any luck, celebrations later!

Thanks,
Mark

Hey, no problemo with the messages! I needed to be urged 2 or 3 times before I finally took the time to register and vote. Hope my vote makes a difference.

Re:

Your vote matters as much as any other. There are only a few thousand votes cast for each side in this race, so, yes... it certainly makes a difference in the result!

i agree, it's totally ace that we can all unite and contribute to the future of this site, especially as it's offered as a free service with a paying option. that was a masterstroke, i reckon. definitely worth the fee.

so yeah, word to lj :)

I conned some of my computer illiterate friends and family to hop on my computer and vote anyway...

So together, we've racked up about 17 votes. Which isn't much, but considering about 12 of them had to be walked through the 'point and click' part of the voting... I'm doin good! WOO HOO!

Re:

17 votes is a LOT! That's about a third of a percent, and that makes a big difference in this race!

When I last looked, LJ was leading Blogger by 5% in the personal category.

Re:

4% currently. We could use a bigger cushion with PayPal, which should get us a bigger cushion with Blogger incidentally.

I have already voted, and urged my friends to vote. The funny thing is, LiveJournal is beating PayPal, a service that LiveJournal itself uses! How cool is that? By the way, have you actually seen what a webby award looks like? My friend won one last year and they are pretty cool :-)

Re:

We are actually thinking of sharing the award or at least giving credit where credit is due to paypal, since we do use them and they do help us out quite a bit.

Haven't seen a webby yet... at least, not up close. Hopefully that will change, however!

It would show a lot of class for LJ to acknowledge PayPal when you guys receive the award. PayPal is a great service, but LiveJournal is a better service and is one that I use everyday

Re:

I was a bit confused as to which one to pick but did my best. I wonder if the percent they give is the combined one of all these or just for the one that I picked.

This was raised elsewhere but I wanted to ask - have we established whether the People's Choice Winners will go on stage at the Webbies, or not? Is the stage at the Webbies only for the peer-voted awards?

Re:

The peoples choice winners are announced at the webbies, but they are actually accepted in the parts of the show that happen either before or after the main awards show. Not sure which... I heard that Sam Donaldson was going to present them.

Take a look at the webbies website, as it has a video of last years show. It will give you an idea perhaps how they'll do things this year.
