If you have a Paid or Permanent account, you can now send 10 of your non-Paid friends a $10 coupon. Your friend will be able to purchase a Paid Account for $9.95 (instead of $19.95) for one year by enrolling in our automatic payment plan or make a manual payment of $15 (instead of $25).

  • All Paid and Permanent accounts can send out the coupons by clicking here (it's also under Friends -> Holiday promotion in the site header)
  • You can also send to people not on your Friends list by manually entering the username in the field provided
  • If your friend declines the invitation, it will be returned to your available invitation pool and you'll be able to send to someone else
  • You can send the invitations until January 15th

Are you 11 years old? No one cares.

"You has not allowed to send invites"

Ditto.

And honestly, I think the lolcats talk is a little too passe to start incorporating it into official live journal announcements.

;)

I love promotions where the person who has been paying all along gets squat.

Tried sending one, doesn't seem to be working?

This had seriously better not be the so-called "holiday promotion".

If it is, then, DAMN, you guys need to get a better marketing department. And better brains.

Or, y'know, brains at ALL.

it'd be easier if you filtered out everyone who already had a paid account.

At least when I look at my list, it seems like they do.

why can we only use this for personal journals and not for communities?

Since you can't log in as a community, the community wouldn't be able to redeem the invitation.

While I do have friends with basic accounts (obviously), it'd be nice if I could also send the coupons to friends with paid accounts and they can use it for extra userpics or something.

(Edited to fix really shitty wording. =P)

Srsly. Or for renewal or something.

Total gyp.

... What the hell is this?

Current balance

You've sent 6 holiday coupons.
You have 4 coupons left to send.

Considering this has been up, what, all of ten minutes, how did I mysteriously send 6 coupons I don't remember sending?

I'm checking on this - can you please refresh the page and see if it corrects?

Realizing that I have a permanent account, so me using $10 for myself is nigh useless unless I put it toward a t-shirt or something ... I'm a college student, damn it, and t-shirts are important to me. :( Where's the bonus for those of us who have already shelled out over $100 to this site?

The bonus is when you're getting all the perks years down the line without paying any more :P

Are these still going to be available to us if our paid account expires before we send them all?

Only Paid users can use that URL, so I don't believe so.

The term "non-Paid friends" is kind of hilarious, out of context.

What happened to the pay for a year and get the user pics included in it? I was counting on that to get two accounts renewed that way.

This is a bad holiday promo.

Yeah, I was counting on that one too, I use it every year. It's actually a useful reward to me, as a paid user, rather than one of these. If my friends wanted paid accounts, they would have them.

I sincerely hope they're just a bit late implementing it this year.

Um. Why does it say that I've sent out 10 of these invites when I just checked that page for the first time in my life?

nevermind. it seems to get the proper balance if i refresh the page

Mmm, on mine it's written:

You've sent 10 holiday coupons.
You have 0 coupons left to send.

But I didn't send any, it's the first time that I go see that page...

Evidently a couple refreshs will sort things out? See above.

Can somebody send multiple coupons to the same account?

From what I've seen, it doesn't look like it.

Hrm, the previous promotions were centered towards giving gifts to others. This one doesn't work so well for that, since it's hard to give somebody a gift that they have to spend money on to use.

Precisely. Hardly seems generous.

Oh nice holiday promotion. Looks like my husband and I won't be renewing this year like we have the past two.

I'm sure your $50 will be sorely missed.

Can I get the money and buy my friends something they could use?

Seriously, though: what happened to the "Pay for a year and get extra userpics for free" stuff. That was way more fun - at least, that way my "friends" didn't have to pay for the "gift".

This. I would imagine that were I to give these as a "gift" to my friends, they wouldn't consider me their friend anymore. =P Yes, they can decline, etc., but the saying "It's the thought that counts" holds true.

what happens if a person with a basic account recieves two invitations?
what happens if someone with a basic account takes the invitation, but cancels the automatic payment plan 'in time' before it goes into the second year?
does it work for journals from any country?

My friend recently got two coupons, and they could not use more than one to help pay for a paid account with extra userpics and since they don't have money and would only want it for the extra userpics, they couldn't purchase an account at all.

Does this only apply to non-Paid users? Or can I send it to someone who has a paid account so they can top up their account?

"Please note that these coupons are not transferable and cannot be used to renew existing paid accounts."

You can only send invitations up to the 15th, but is there a time limit on when they can be redeemed? Like, for example, I have a friend who wants to switch to a journal but she's still on paid time on her current account so she's waiting for it to expire - if I send that journal an invite, will it still be redeemable in February/March when she wants to switch to using the new account?

If not, she'd still come out ahead paying $10-$15 instead of $20-25 and losing a couple months of it. Still, I hope it is, as that would be even better.

Yep. I know some of my LJ friends will be thrilled about it. Thanks, LJ.

I don't think that my friends would appreciate gifts for which they will have to pay.

Can they enrol for the payment programme, get the year for free and then cancel the auto payment thing?

It's kinda stingy to gift my friends something and then see they have to give you their bank details for you to help yourselves to next year.

They don't get a year for free; with the coupon, they can pay $9.95 if they sign up for auto payment (which, yes, could be canceled), or they can pay $15 if not signing up through auto payments. The coupon takes $10 off the price, it doesn't make it free.
