As many of you may already know, LiveJournal experienced about an hour of downtime on Thursday, August 6th due to a DDoS which affected LiveJournal and several other web service providers. In the days following that event some users may have noticed some site slowness or experienced connection problems as we worked on blocking "bad" traffic and making sure that all of you could access the site. We want to apologize for any inconvenience or frustration this caused.

Although the circumstances were out of our control, we greatly appreciate the patience and support you've shown us over the past week or two as we worked to mitigate the effects of this attack. For those of you who support us by owning a Paid Account, we'd like to express our appreciation by extending your Paid Time for a few days. Anyone who was an active Paid member as of any time Thursday, August 6, 2009 is eligible for a 3 day extension of Paid time. You can claim this extension anytime from now until 12:01 GMT on September 10th.

The extension isn't automatic so that people who weren't affected can have the option to choose whether or not they want an extension. You can choose to claim your extension by going to this page: http://www.livejournal.com/pay/claim.bml

Personally, I think this was a very professional and nice move on the part of LJ. I have a permanent account, so won't benefit from it, but I still think it's a great move. Thank you for being proactive and attentive.

I can't have a 3 day extension, so let me place my own demand.

I demand that Abuse actually keep the fuck up. I paid a portion of someone's salary, now I want that person to do their job.

A few months ago, I reported a COPPA violation, something that would have gotten SUP in shit legally. It took Abuse ten days to get back to me. When I dared protest, I was told that COPPA violations were of last importance, below even whiners whose friends haxx0red their accounts. Next time I will simply report to a watchdog and watch my Permanent Account money get whisked away by legal action.

Fuck the three-day extension. Abuse is broken. Fix it.

Thanks for the three day extension! I really wasn't expecting anything like that, seeing as the DDoS attack was something beyond your control, so it was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated :)

I am very impressed. A company that knows customer service! (And I used to work in the field.) I am in awe of you, LJ, and I will continue to pay for my account. This is yet another reason why you have my customer loyalty. ^_^
