3 months bonus time offer ends 10/15 [Oct. 13th, 2005|10:05 am]

[ryanfitz]
The three months of bonus paid time offer that we announced with the launch of automatic payments ends this Saturday, October 15, 2005 at 11:59 pm Pacific. Anyone with active paid account status on 8/14/05 (the date of the original announcement) is eligible to receive three months of bonus paid time when you switch your account to automatic payments and select the 12-month billing cycle. Read the fine print.

By the way, our auto-magical new system will take into account your remaining paid time and prorate your charges. For example, if you have six months of remaining paid time and you sign up for automatic payments on a 12-month billing cycle, then you’ll have a total of 15 months of paid time and only be charged $9.98 (half of $19.95). Automatic payments can only be setup using a credit or debit card.

Update: For those of you who have taken advantage of this promotion, you can visit the paid account manage page to see when your 3 months of bonus time will apply. Your "next bill amount" may show a non-zero amount but instead of a charge the promotion time will be applied. At the end of the 3 month promotion time your regular billing cycle will resume.

You guys should open the offer to people that get paid accounts during the last week or something. I notice that most of the offers pertain to people that are paid at that time and people always comment about having just expired.

I know I would be more likely to renew if there was an offer, and I'm sure other people would too.

I never quite figured this out...

So if I sign up on October 15, on October 15, 2006, will I get billed $19.95 and receive 12+3 months of paid time, or will I get billed for 9 months worth and get 12 months?

The +3 is applied after the 12mos ends and you're still on automatic payments. I would assume this means that the second payment is prorated?

don't suppose there's support for UK debit cards? maestro/switch/solo?

otherwise i'll have to stick to paypal, i guess.

They aren't just "UK" debit cards. Maestro is an international Debitm card system operated by Europe and Mastercard - it's massive and all Switch, Maestro and Solo cards support the Maestro system.

Any international company should support payment by it, esp. if they want any European customers to use it.

Question About Extras

Between the pro-rating for the initial subscription and the 3 months bonus time, I'm confused how the billing for extra user pics will work. If I add 100 pic capacity today, it says that I'll be charged $29.95 every 12 months, but that means the pics will actually be getting renewed off-sync with the basic subscription... doesn't it?

To be specific, my account next expires at the end of February. I'm pro-rated to about $12 for journal cost if I go onto auto-pay today, and will get 7 months of account, and 12 months of pictures. So would I then get charged $20 in May for my next 12 months of journal time and $10 next October for a year of pictures? Or $30 in May?

Re: Question About Extras

I was wondering about this too. I was going to do it but it didn't seem to be pro-rating my user pics and I don't wanna get ripped off. Even for $1 LOL.

If you go in to start the process, the system will tell you automatically, before you put in your billing info.

Well, that's kind of the gimmick - you get the 3 months free for switching, like a "gift" sort of thing.

So if I renew right now (my account is paid until next month) I'd be charged for 8 months (in proportion that would should be $ 13.30) right now for this year and the next automatic payment would be the usual $ 19.95 due October 2006, which then would automatically be paid from my credit card?

Did I do the maths right? It totally confuses me...

I renewed at the end of Sept and selected 12 month auto renewal, but my account is still showing as expiring at the end of Sept 2006: i.e. no extra 3 months. Does this mean it hasn't worked?

I'm confused as well

I was paid through 4/06, 6 months from now. I just changed to automatic payments, as well as adding the extra userpics for $10. I was charged $20, which is correct, and my next due date was rescheduled for 10-13-06, which is also correct.....except that where/when does the "extra 3 months free" come in?

Was this covered in "new math"? Cuz I was absent that day...I have a note though. Really.

Re: I'm confused as well

Ooops! I thought I answered your post already. Sorry!

You get the extra three months after the successful completion of your first recurring payment next year. Basically, if LJ successfully completes the auto pay transaction for your account next October, they will add three extra months at that time... 15 months for the price of 12.

Question:

I've already signed up for automatic payments.

Will I be able to switch my credit card to another one after Oct 15 without affecting my bonus time?

Based on an answer to a similar question a couple months ago, yes. As long as they can complete the auto pay transaction next year, you still get the bonus 3 months.

Re: more than a year remaining?

You don't get billed this year and you get your next year prorated for the time left as I understand it. Plus, if your account was paid status on 8-14-05, you get your bonus three months. :)

Hey Ryan?

There seems to be a little bit of conflicting info and if I'm wrong, I want to clear it up.

A couple of months ago, going through this thing, I understood that when the auto payment comes due next year, you are billed the whole fee for the year's service (in my case $29.95) and are then given three extra months, making the account expiration three months later than it would normally be (again in my case, November 2007). This is how I am interpreting it, based on discussions back in August AND by what it says on my account management page. It states quite clearly that I will be billed $29.95 on August 15, 2006. (image of my acct info page here)

There are people who are spreading info that next year, you will be billed for 9 months (around $15) and still get a year's worth of time.

I just want to be sure. Am I giving out the correct info or am I wrong?

It's that last sentence that's what's keeping me from doing it. If you could draw automatically from my paypal account I'd be all for it (I have some other sites that already do this). My problem is that I don't necessarily want you to use the same credit card every time, whereas with paypal I can draw money from the account I want to use and it comes from where I want it to.

That's why LJ gives you the option of changing the card in the payment management area. :)

O.k. Question?

I just paid for the new feature, but I had 2 months left on this subscription. What does that mean for me?

I'm confused because it says that next year on Oct.13th, I'll be charged $19.95.
